This handmade wooden niddy noddy pairs a walnut handle with beech crossbars and produces an approximately 1.5 m yarn wrap with each complete winding. Individually made in the Kravelli workshop in Georgia, it is a traditional handspinning tool for winding newly spun yarn into organized skeins.
The contrasting walnut and beech woods give this version a distinctive two-tone appearance while maintaining a simple, functional form.
Use Profile
The niddy noddy is used after spinning to wind yarn into a skein. Yarn is wrapped around the crossbars in a repeating pattern, allowing the spinner to organize handspun yarn for washing, setting, storage, or later use.
With approximately 1.5 m of yarn per complete wrap, the number of wraps can also provide a practical basis for estimating the length of yarn wound onto the tool.
